Creating and configuring your tenant

When you have registered for a subscription, you can create and configure a Qlik Cloud tenant. As the service account owner, you’ll manage the initial creation and configuration of the tenant, including configuring regions and inviting users.

The tenant and the service account owner

A tenant is a unit in within Qlik Cloud, that serves as a container for your organization’s data, apps, users, and spaces. Each tenant is tied to a specific subscription, and only the service account owner (SAO) can create and manage it. The first user to access the tenant becomes the SAO and the initial tenant administrator.

Information note

If you need to change the service account owner, contact Qlik Support or create a support case from the Support Case Portal. For more information, see Qlik Cloud Services: Service Account Owner and Tenant Admin FAQ.

Steps to set up your tenant

Once you receive your welcome email, you can log in to activate your account.

Tip note If you did not receive an email, you can also create your tenant by logging in to My Qlik. Log in from My Qlik portal or go to Qlik.com and select Log In > Qlik Cloud. For more information, see How to Create a Tenant from My Qlik Portal.

1. Activate your account and start the tenant creation

Do the following:

  1. Click the Let's get started button in the welcome email from Qlik.
  2. On the Set up your account page, set a password in Create password.
  3. Agree to the Qlik terms and conditions by selecting the checkbox and clicking Next.

2. Choose your region

On the Almost finished page, select the region for your tenant. The region you choose will be part of your tenant URL and cannot be changed after the setup is complete. Selecting the appropriate region to store your data ensures optimal performance. A default region is selected based on your location, but you can choose a different region if necessary.

Do the following:

  1. Select your region.
  2. Click Finish to complete the tenant setup.

The following regions are available:

Important information

  • To request data from data connections through a firewall, you need to add the underlying IP addresses for your region to your allowlist. For more information, see Allowlisting domain names and IP addresses.

  • Anonymous access tenants can only be created in the Sweden region. You cannot select the Sweden region for non-anonymous access tenants.

  • For OEM and Enterprise external use deployments, each end customer should be deployed to their own Qlik Cloud tenant.

Warning noteUsing a single tenant for all end customers may result in a user having access to visibility of all other users within the same tenant - such visibility may include (but may not be limited to): user names, email addresses and the user’s subject, which is a unique string used to identify the user that is provided to Qlik Cloud by the configured Identity Provider.
  • There is a maximum number of tenants that you can create in a region. Contact Qlik Sales to manage your user account.

Next steps after tenant creation

As the service account owner (SAO), you automatically become the first tenant admin when you create the tenant. After the tenant is created, you can start inviting users and assign other users as tenant admins.

You can manage users by using either a corporate identity provider (IdP) or Qlik Account.

Information note

If you have multiple tenants associated with the same license, make sure they all use the same IdP to prevent duplicated license assignments.

For more information on managing users, see:

Additional configuration options

Tenant encryption with customer managed key (CMK)

If your organization wants to use its own customer managed key (CMK) to encrypt tenant data, you can configure tenant encryption to use a CMK from a supported key provider. For more information, see Tenant encryption.

Anonymous access

An anonymous access tenant allows users to view specific Qlik analytics content without needing a registered account. This is useful for sharing non-sensitive data temporarily, such as embedding it on a company website or sharing with external partners or clients. Administrators retain full control over access permissions.

With anonymous access, users can view your Qlik Sense app through a shared link or embedded code, without having to log in. Administrators can control who gets access and how long that access lasts.

Requirements for using anonymous access:

  • A Qlik Anonymous Access subscription.

  • Access to the Sweden region.

For more information, see Qlik Anonymous Access subscriptions.

If you don't plan to share Qlik analytics with the public or external users, other Qlik Cloud subscriptions might better suit your needs. For more information, see Planning your Qlik Cloud deployment.
