What is a sheet template?

A sheet template is a prebuilt sheet that contains charts arranged for specific types of presentation and analysis. Simply select a template, and then add data and visualization filters to the charts as needed.

Objects included in sheet templates include:

  • KPIs for aggregating metrics to provide quick summaries of performance

  • Bar and line charts to compare data across categories and over time

  • Filter panes to help filter data with selections

  • Straight tables and pivot tables to allow users to drill into details

Building a sheet using a template

  1. Create a new sheet using the guidelines at Creating sheets.

    The Templates window opens.

  2. Use the menu on the left side to navigate between available templates. You can view commonly used templates in Highlights, show All templates, pick a Category, and more.

  3. Place your cursor over a template and click Use template.

Alternatively, you can click Details to view more details about the template before adding it.

If you want to continue without using a template, click Create without template, or click to close the window.

Hiding the templates dialog

Building sheets using templates is optional. If you wish to start the sheet creation process without the template selector, deselect Show when creating a sheet in the top right corner of the window.

You can open the template picker again at any time by clicking Show templates on the sheet canvas of a blank sheet.
